Full Description

SS 9889 3860. Luxborough 1. Bowl barrow 14 paces diameter and 3ft high, dug in centre. [2] A shallow amorphous depression is all that survives at this site. Thebarrow was doubtless destroyed during forestry planting. Published survey (1/2500) revised. [3] SS 9888 3868. Remains of a barrow, which is very difficult to find. [4] Additional bibliography. [5] The site is currently under a young forestry plantation (trees 4 metres high) and is therefore inaccessible. [6] No trace of the barrow could be seen on aerial photographs dating from 1947. [7,8] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [9] The site of the tumulus is recorded on the 2022 MasterMap data. [10]
