Full Description

"Old limekiln" printed on 25 inch 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map. [1] The site of the limekiln is now obscured by modern rubbish, and is visible only as a flat topped mound beside the road. However, it is clear that it was sited immediately west of the Wheddon Cross to Timberscombe Road and that it was loaded from the road. A partially obscured track leads from the road down to the base of the kiln from the north, presumably to allow carts down to collect the lime. [2] The kiln is also depicted and labelled on the 25 inch 1st Edition map. [3]
