MSO8202 - Downside Farm (Monument)

Derelict enclosures and building remans suggesting a deserted farm site. [1,2] Not mentioned in Aston's list. [3] The building and earthwork remains of a deserted settlement are visible on aerial photographs north west of Elworthy Farm. Centred at approximately ST 0805 3531, several earthwork banks and the remains of at least two buildings can be seen, together with a possible trackway leading from Elworthy to the farm. [4] It appears to be inhabited on the first and second edition maps and was probably abandoned in the early 20th century. [5,6] The farm buildings are clearly displayed on the Tithe Map of 1842. [7]
