Full Description
Besides the usual buildings and platform this station on the West Somerset Mineral Railway had a wooden coal store, a weighbridge and several sidings. [1] Roadwater Station House survives, albeit altered following extension to the northwest elevation. [2] Roadwater Station comprised a station building and platform, a wooden coal store, weighbridge and several sidings. [3] No trace of the coal store or weighbridge are visible. The base of the bridge remains in situ, crossing the river to the south of the station. Three original level crossing gates also survive in situ. [4] The station platform survives for circa 36.5 metres but is grassed over. No significant trace of the goods yard, weighbridge or coal store survive and this area was in use for some time as a market garden. [5,6] The railway line and buildings can be viewed on the 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps. [8,9] The station building itself is now a private dwelling: "Station Bungalow". A flat roofed porch has been added to the standard design building, a lentgh of platform survives on each side of the building. The coal stores still stand at ST 0391 3821, with an area of waste ground to the north, centred at ST 0319 3822, representing the former sidings. [10] The hip roofed Station of 1864 is in Watersmeet Close. It served the West Somerset Mineral Railway. [11]
