MDE1266 - Late prehistoric hut circle on Cheriton Ridge (Monument)

A hut circle is shown on an Ordnance Survey map dating to 1962 but has not been located during various field investigations.

Full Description

SS 7528 4306. Hut Circle (NR) [1] SS 7529 4306. Cheriton Ridge. Considered very doubtful by Clarke (1938); not found by Grinsell 1969. [2] Neither a hut circle nor the remains of a cairn can be found in this area of peaty moorland, and the publication seems entirely erroneous. [3] No trace of a hut circle was found at the National Grid Reference sited. [4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5] The hut circle is marked on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map. [6] It is not shown on 2021 MasterMap data. [7]
