MSO7730 - Two Bronze Age barrows on Yenworthy Common (Monument)

Summary

Two small Bronze Age bowl barrows were noted to be 8 metres in diameter.

SS 7973 4834 and SS 7976 4834 - Two small round barrows. [1] As above: they have now been robbed almost to ground level. See GP's AO/65/137/1 & 2. Surveyed at 1/2500. (Divorced). [2] SS 7975 4839 approx. Oare 13; SS 7978 4838 approx. Oare 14. Visited 20 May 1962 following a reported discovery. Each eight paces in diameter by one foot high, with hollow centres. [3] Two bowl barrows (A and B) lying on moorland northeast of New Road Gate. 'A' SS 7973 4837 Bowl barrow 8.0 metres in diameter by 0.3 metres high. 'B' SS 7976 4836 Bowl barrow 8.0 metres in diameter by 0.4 metres high. Both barrows have had their centres robbed by digging. Surveyed at 1:2500 on PFD. [4] (SS 7973 4837 and SS 7975 4836) Tumuli (NR). [5] Two barrows at SS 7973 4837 and SS 7975 4836 on the southwest facing slopes of Yenworthy Common. Both features are under dense heather, and their detailed form is not readily discernible. Neither appears to have been excavated. They are generally as described by source [4].
