MSO10648 - Boeveys, linhay and stable adjoining Simonsbath House (Building)

A linhay with a stable abutting to the north. This is 18th to 19th Century in date. It is made of flat bedded local slate, with corrugated iron sheeting to the linhay, and with a slate roofed stable. The linhay has 4 bays, circular stone piers abutting higher independently roofed stable block, square headed opening and inserted double doors. This forms part of a group with the east end of Simonsbath House Hotel to the west. [1] This is the oldest farm building that is still in use in the former Royal Forest (MEM22088) and is now (2013) in use as a tearoom. [2] The buildings were visited in March 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. They received a BAR score of 6. [3] In the early 1870s a reading room was situated at the top end of what is now Boevey's Restaurant. The same room is at present used as a store. [4]
