Full Description
A small subcircular quarry or extractive pit, most likely of post-medieval date, is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on the southern edge of Squallacombe, Exmoor. Centred at SS 7329 3801, the quarry measures approximately 20 metres across. It is not depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1891, suggesting it was abandoned prior to this date, but was most likely in use during the mid 19th Century providing stone for nearby field boundaries. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
