Full Description
An earthwork bank forming a corner of a possible enclosure is visible on aerial photographs [1] on moorland on the western side of Exe Plain. Located at SS 7474 4220 on an extremely steep west facing slope above an unnamed tributary of Hoaroak Water, the bank forms the corner of an enclosure apparently measuring 7 by 7 metres. The feature is not visible on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map [2], and its precise date and function remain uncertain. It may represent the remains of a post-medieval sheepfold, which was eventually replaced by the stone built sheepfold visible to the north west (MSO6988). [3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
