Full Description

Irregularly shaped earthwork features of Second World War date on Cheriton Ridge, centred on circa SS 7400 4535, can be seen on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The earthworks comprise a series of conjoined roughly circular scoops or shallow pits of differing sizes. Their function is unknown but similar features recur over a large area, some appearing as low earthworks, some cut features such as this, but all are probably related to military training activities, possibly associated with the Exmoor Firing Ranges, to the east and southeast.
