MMO1877 - World War Two pits on Ilkerton Ridge (Monument)

A row of four small irregularly shaped pits, probably military features of Second World Dar date, are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s running northwards for roughly 100 metres alongside a footpath.

A row of four small irregularly shaped pits or trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards, running northwards for roughly 100 metres from circa SS 71264592, alongside a footpath on Ilkerton Ridge, Lynton and Lynmouth parish. The pits are most likely to be of Second World Dar date, and were probably dug as part of military training exercises taking place on the Exmoor Firing Range. [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
