MMO1191 - Post-medieval water meadow north of Kingsbridge (Monument)

Summary

The remains of a post-medieval field gutter system is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1964. It is associated with the adjacent deserted farmsteads of Butchers and Monkhams.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of water meadows associated with the adjacent deserted post-medieval farmsteads of Butchers and Monkhams. The water meadows appear as fragmented ditches aligned parallel to the hill side. They survive as earthworks and were mapped from aerial photographs. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
