MMO1081 - Post-medieval water meadow south of Greenslade Farm (Monument)

Summary

A post-medieval field gutter system south of Greenslade Farm, visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1964. A large proportion was destroyed when Wimbleball Lake was formed in the late 20th century.

Full Description

A post-medieval water meadow, known locally as a catch water irrigation system, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. Sixteen field gutters or drains follow the contour on the slopes below South Greenslade Farm. Three concentrations are centred at SS 9679 2998, SS 9693 3000 and SS 9685 3008. This system links up to one at Hurwood Farm (described in MMO714).
