Full Description

An upright, earthfast stone lies at the head of Outer Alscott Combe at SS 8280 4499. The stone is a rectangular slab of local shillet, measuring 60 by 35 by 7 centimetres. The stone is depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890 [1]. It was recorded using differential GPs as part of the EH survey of Mill for the ENPA. [2,3] The stone marks the boundary of the manors of Oare and Glenthorne and was apparently set up in the 19th Century. [4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
