Full Description
An area of formal gardens is shown on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map south of Holnicote House, centred at SS 9094 4624. It includes geometrically arranged paths and an area of trees. There are several small outbuildings arranged around the periphery of the boundary, at SS 9099 4626, SS 9098 4621, SS 9095 4627 and SS 9089 4625. [1] No features are shown in the same land parcel on the Tithe Map for Selworthy. Most of the small buildings shown on the 1st Edition map are not visible on this map; however, there are a group of buildings depicted in the northeastern corner of the plot. The parcel is labelled 395; this is decribed in the Apportionment as "Holnicote: Lower Garden". [2] By the time the 25 inch 2nd Edition map was surveyed, the parcel is once again shown as a clear plot, although the outbuildings are still visible around the site. [3] The buildings shown on the 1st Edition map to the northeast and east of the feature are still apparently extant on the 2021 MasterMap data. [4]
