MEM24140 - 19th Century plantation at Emmett's Grange (Monument)

Summary

A plantation marked on historic mapping was sited in the corner of a field but is no longer extant. Its northeastern side is visible as a linear positive earthwork noted during field survey in 2011.

Full Description

SS 7515 3727. Linear positive earthwork c.2.0 metres wide and 0.5 metres high and extends for c.15 metres and is orientated northwest to southeast. The feature is best interpreted as a removed hedge bank marking the boundary of the triangular plantation shown in this location on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map. [1,2] The boundary of the plantation is also shown on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map, although no trees are shown within the site. [3]
