MEM23599 - Outbuilding associated with village poor house, Winsford (Monument)

The building was depicted on the Tithe Map for Winsford but appears to have been demolished by the time the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map was depicted, although its fabric may be incorporated into a later building.

The Tithe Map for Winsford depicts a small building in the corner of the road at c. SS 9066 3487, with a plot of land to the rear reaching down to the River Exe. This is labelled as land parcel 658, the accompanying Apportionment document describing it as part of the Poor House (see MEM23600) and gardens, owned by the Overseers of the Poor Lessees under Sir Thomas Dyke Acland. [1] The building appears to have been demolished by the time the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map was produced, although it may be incorporated within the more recent building named Brookwood. This seems unlikely, however, because the latter is set back from the roads to the north and west but the original building was placed in the corner abutting both roads. [2]
