Full Description
As part of the Exmoor Mires Project, Cornwall Council Historic Environment Service were contracted to undertake a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Lanacombe, which included this site. Visible was a linear clearance cairn or stony bank up to 8 metres long, 3 metres wide and 0.1 metre high, aligned northnorthwest-southsoutheast. Several stones up to 0.5 metres on their longer sides are visible within the feature, which forms part of a field system of possible Bronze Age date. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Lanacombe, which included this site. Noted was a linear stony bank up to 8 metres long, 3 metres wide and 0.1 metres high, aligned northnorthwest-southsoutheast. Several stones are visible on the surface measuring up to 0.5 metres long. The feature forms part of prehistoric field system MSO7102. [2]
