Full Description

Flint and chert waste found on the surface of a sheep track between SS 76615 37275 and SS 76637 37286. The site lies at the southeast corner of Deer Park and some 50 metres north of the road from Blue Gate to Wintershead Farm. Specifically the flint was collected from a sheep path on the eastern side of a shallow north-south combe, on an area of unimproved moorland. The assemblage is a mixture of flint and chert and comprises waste pieces up to 4 centimetres long. In character it is probably Neolithic or Bronze Age in date. [1] A leaf shaped arrowhead was later found on the same animal track. [2] This find was mentioned in a report on a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Deer Park, undertaken by the Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project.
