Full Description
A post-medieval quarry is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork west of Badgworthy Cottage, Brendon. Centred at approximately SS 7886 4446, the oval quarry measures some 20 metres across. It is depicted and annotated on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting it was in use in 1889 when the map ws published. It is possible that this quarry supplied building stone for the construction of Badgworthy Cottage in 1860. [3] There is no sign on the 1962 map. [4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
