Description
A watching brief by Exeter Archaeology during trenching for storm water holding tank in a car park at Bottom Meadow, Lynton, recorded what appear to be deep valley head deposits containing varied geological rock types, overlain by relatively recent colluvial deposits. Demolition waste and household rubbish dating to c.1940-50s was also observed below a 1m-2.3m deep layer of redeposited clay. Area used as rubbish dump in living memory. The redeposited clays may represent levelling of this dump in advance of construction of car park, which is known to have been completed before 1953.
