Full Description
A charcoal burning platform lies in Great Birchcleeve Wood centred at SS 8703 3040, half way up the steep, oak-wooded slope rising from the River Barle to the northeast. The platform is almost circular and measures 5 metres across the slope by 4.6 metres and is cut into slight natural levelling. Around the site there is a large amount of animal burrowing. The surrounding wood contains evidence of ancient coppicing. There are other similar platforms in both Great and Little Birchcleeve Woods (MSO8725, MSO8726).
