Full Description
Chest tomb. Early C17. Ham stone. Flat topped, deep cyma recta moulded cornice, 3-bay semi-circular headed arcades with keystones, imposts and spandrels on north and south sides, single bays east and west ends, inscriptions visible on all faces except south which is overgrown with ivy at time of survey (May 1985). Good lettering, north face name of Solomon legible; east end inscription "Mortalls you shall a ----- meet". A good example of an early chest tomb. [1] English Heritage Listed Building Number: 265623. First Listed on 04/08/1986. [2] Stone, Ashlar walls. [3] The tomb was visited in June 2013 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 5A.
