Full Description

Cottage. Early C19, enlarged circa 1970. Roughcast over rubble, diagonal buttresses, hipped thatched roof with central curved sweep of roof over bay, central octagonal stone stack. L-plan: original cottage facing south enlarged with north-west wing and curved entrance porch in angle. south front: 2 storeys, 3-bays; central full height curved bay with pairs of arrowslit windows on each floor, other windows 2-light wooden casements, ground floor openings retain hoodmoulds, original entrance on right return, thatched pentice porch on roughcast walls, plank door, catslide roof, 2 window openings in outshut on right return, ground floor window with hoodmould. Semicircular part-glazed thatched porch in angle with C20 addition, now main entrance. One of a group of Chargot estate cottages. [1] English Heritage Listed Building Number: 265313. First Listed on 22/05/1969. [2] Stone, Render, roughcast and pebbledash walls. Hipped roof [3] The building was visited in June 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 6. [4] The cottage was photographed in 1999. [5] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [6]
