Summary

A bank-barn with integral stables is believed to be around 18th Century in date. An attached horse-engine house at the higher ground level at the rear has been demolished.

Full Description

Bank barn, integral stables and horse engine house. Circa C18. Stone rubble. Half-hipped roof, re-clad in sheet steel. PLAN: Long rectangular range comprising a bank barn at the east end with a cart entrance and horse engine house (demolished) at the higher ground level at the rear, and an integral range of stables at the west end. EXTERIOR: South Front: Stone step on right to high-level doorway with plank doors and window in between. At rear, north, ground level is higher, cart entrance to left of centre and former engine house to right of centre. INTERIOR: Roof Trusses With collars pegged to the faces of the principal rafters and with some later tirnbers inserted. [1] Bank barn, integral stables and horse engine house. Circa C18. First Listed on 08/03/1996. [3] The building was visited in December 2013 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 4A. [4] The horse engine house appears to have been still extant on the 1946-8 RAF aerial photographs. [5]
