MMO3674 - Possible Iron Age rectangular enclosure northwest of King's Wood (Monument)

A possible rectangular enclosure is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark. Given the size and form of the enclosure it may well be prehistoric, possibly Iron Age in date, but further survey is required.

A possible rectangular enclosure is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark in fields north west of King's Wood, Nettlecombe. Centred at approximately ST 0444 3750, three sides of an enclosure are visible as a line of darker crop growth, indicating the presence of a ditch. The cropmark itself measures some 2 metres wide, and forms an enclosures measuring at least 43 metres long by 35 metres wide. There is no indication of an entranceway, but the south side of the enclosure is not visible. Given the size and form of the enclosure it may well be Prehistoric, possibly Iron Age in date, but further survey is required. [1,2]
