MMO340 - Post-medieval quarries southeast of Picket Gate Quarry (Monument)

SS 7052 4748. A small group of earthworks (form unspecified) southeast of Picket Gate Quarry seen by McDonnell on aerial photographs. [1-3] SS 7052 4749. These earthworks are three small quarries located on steep slopes on the east side of the Barbrook. No survey action. [4] Three roughly circular quarry pits of probable post-medieval date were recorded from aerial photographs during the Exmoor National Park National Mapping Programme (NMP) survey. The pits are all under 8 metres in diameter and access was probably gained to them via an adjacent footpath marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map. [5-7] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [8]
