Full Description
Former field boundaries of probable post-medieval date can be seen as low earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1950s, centred on circa SS 84793390 approximately 400 metres to the south of North Batsom. The earthworks divide a rectangular field into four smaller fields and define a green lane along its southern edge, which may have led to the former farmstead of South Batcham. The banks cannot be seen on later aerial photographs or the images available on Google Earth at the time of survey and might have been completely levelled. [1-4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
