Full Description
A large quarry of probable post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork south of Honeymead Farm, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7951 3888, the irregularly shaped quarry consists of a shallow pit measuring at least 50 metres across. Several mounds around the edges of the pit are probably spoil heaps. The quarry is depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890 and annotated "old quarry" suggesting it was abandoned prior to publication. Given its location close to Honeymead Farm, it is possible that it supplied building stone for the farm and its field boundaries.
