Full Description
A linear depression or pit is visible on aerial photographs in fields southeast of Horsen Farm, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7916 3614, the pit measures some 62 metres long and up to 20 metres wide. It is depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map and annotated gravel pit, suggesting it was still in use when the map was published in 1890. It most likely dates to the post-medieval period. [1-3] The depression was disused by the publication of the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map, when the feature is depicted as 'old gravel pit'. [4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
