Full Description
A post-medieval field boundary is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork in a field southeast of Wintershead Farm, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7777 3642, the bank runs roughly north-south down the steep slope above Kinsford Water, following the alignment of the extant boundary visible to the north. It was probably laid out at the same time as Wintershead Farm was constructed in the mid 19th Century. However, it is not depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889, suggesting it was removed prior to this date, perhaps to create a larger grazing area for stock. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
