Full Description
A relict boundary bank of probable post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork, centred at circa SS 8919 3932, within the area covered by Hammet's Cleeve plantation. In total the earthwork is about 180 metres in length. From the point where it abuts the extant field boundary to the south of Hammet's Cleeve plantation, it continues north, downslope, for almost 60 metres. From this point it doglegs east then again north, to where it meets the course of the River Quarme. The boundary is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map and was therefore probably abandoned on the establishment of the plantation, prior to 1890. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
