MMO2819 - Post-medieval quarry at Lyncombe Hill (Monument)

A small pit, probably the remains of an extractive or prospecting pit of post-medieval date, is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on North Brake, centred on circa SS 8674 3686. The pit is irregularly shaped but and at its widest point measures approximately 16 by 6 metres. It is not marked on the on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890 but may be associated with a larger pit approximately 75 metres to the northwest which is, and may represent prospecting activity.
