Full Description
A small quarry pit is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on the southern edge of Bye Common, centred on circa SS 8819 3558. The pit is roughly ovoid in shape but may also show evidence of two phases of extraction, creation a slightly foliate or layed appearance. No entrance track to the pit can be seen. It is marked on the on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map of 1903 but not the 1st edition of 1890. This may support an interpretation of a late post-medieval or early 20th Century date. However, the purpose of the pit is unclear from the aerial photographs alone.
