Full Description
A small quarry or extractive pit is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork immediately north of Kedworthy Combe, Brayford. Centred at approximately SS 7191 3742, the quarry is cut into the steep west facing slope of Kedworthy Combe. It measures approximately 20 metres across and is depicted but not annotated on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889, suggesting it had been abandoned prior to this date. It most likely dates to the post-medieval period, but could possibly be medieval. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
