Full Description

A pair of square buildings surrounded by a bank are visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s next to the pond which lies to the north west of Frackford Bridge, Dunster. Centred at SS 9838 4330, the two buildings measure approximately 6 metres by 4 metres. There is no indication as to their function or precise date. The bank surrounds the building on the south and east, while the north and west of the buildings are surrounded by the pond. The bank measures approximately 30 metres long and two metres wide. A small enclosure with a single square building to its east is shown in this location on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map but the building has disappeared by the time the 2nd Edition map had been drawn and no buildings are shown on modern maps. However, a Second World War roadblock site existed at Frackford Bridge in the 1940s (MSO10074), and it is possible that these buildings and bank are what remained of the military presence in 1947.
