Full Description
A medieval or post-medieval field boundary is visible on aerial photographs as a very slight earthwork east of Slade Lane, Timberscombe. Centred at SS 9506 4003 the bank runs approximately east to west, curving somewhat towards the north. It measures some 250 metres long and up to 2 metres wide, and connects with the extant boundaries at either end, indicating it is of contemporary date. The boundary resembles a number of extant irregular and curvilinear boundaries in the area, suggesting the origins of the fields are medieval, but as it is also depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map it appears that it remained in use through the post-medieval period until the end of the 19th Century.
