Full Description
A medieval or post-medieval field boundary is visible on aerial photographs as a slight earthwork in a field north of Totterdown Farm, Timberscombe. The boundary is visible as a narrow bank centred at SS 9626 4277 and forming a right angled corner of an enclosure apparently within the extant field. The majority of the bank runs north to south for 85 metres before turning 90 degrees west and running east to west for 36 metres. It is possible that the bank represents the remains of a holding pen of some sort, removed to create a larger field. No such enclosure is depicted at this location on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting it was removed prior to publication in 1889. [1-3]
