Full Description
A possible quarry of probable post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as an earthwork on Porlock Common. The pit is oval in shape and approximately 13 metres in diameter. An entrance is visible on its northwestern side. It is centred on c. SS 8456 4380, adjacent to a probably 19th Century field boundary on the line of the Porlock/Luccombe parish boundary for which it may have provided building material.
