Full Description
An earthwork bank visible on aerial photographs may be the remains of a former field boundary, potentially of medieval date. The narrow bank is centred on circa SS 8346 4196 and can be seen above Allcombe Water Head, Exford parish, ascending the south facing slopes for almost 300 metres between circa 400 and 420 metres above Ordnance Datum. The boundary is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, which may indicate the boundary passed out of use prior to 1889. It is possible that the sinuous or 'aratral' form of the boundary indicates an origin based on strip fields medieval date.
