Full Description

A large, low, subrectangular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs on the southeastern edge of Dure Down summit, Exmoor. Centred at SS 7581 4119 and measuring approximately 12 metres across, the feature is situated in a prominent position on a hilltop, and as such may well be the remains of a prehistoric funerary monument or cairn. However, it also lies close to a large area of post-medieval peat cutting, and may be a peat stack or stand associated with this activity.
