Full Description
A post-medieval quarry is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork at the southern end of Pinkery Canal near Three Combe Hill, Exmoor. Centred at SS 7942 4020 , the quarry measures approximately 40 metres across. It is depicted but not annotated on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889, which suggests it was abandoned some time prior to publication in 1889. Its proximity to the Pinkery Canal indicates it may have been used to provide material for the canal's construction. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
