Full Description
A possible medieval or post medieval quarry is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork south west of Warren Farm. Centred at approximately SS 7904 4036, the quarry is visible as a roughly circular depression, measuring 14 metres across. Within this depression, a second pit is visible, suggesting that the quarry was reworked or that a mineral seam was exploited here. It is not depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889, suggesting it had been abandoned some time prior to publication. There is no indication as to what was extracted at this site; however, there are a number of other quarries in the area (see MMO2323 and MMO2324) suggesting there was some larger scale exploitation here. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
