Full Description
An earthwork mound visible on aerial photographs of the 1970s, at circa SS 8606 4242 on Honeycombe Hill above Thurley Combe, might be the remains of a burial mound, or barrow, or Bronze Age date. Situated on a slight natural terrace on Honeycombe Hill, the earthwork is probably not clearly visible from the higher slopes of Wilmersham Terrace to the south and may have been intended to be seen on a false crest from Thurley Combe. A possible prehistoric field boundary is located immediately to the south of the mound and may have been aligned upon it, perhaps in the later Bronze Age or Iron Age. Due to vegetation cover low archaeological features are difficult to see on aerial photographs in this area and the archaeological status of this feature should be confirmed during a field visit. Until then it must be considered possible that this feature is natural in origin.
