Full Description

A medieval or post-medieval quarry is visible on aerial photographs [1] as a substantial earthwork above Hoaroak Water, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7473 4214, the quarry is cut into the east facing slope above Hoaroak Water and measures approximately 13 metres across. It is depicted but not annotated on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map [2], suggesting it was abandoned prior to publication in 1890. Similar quarries are visible to the south and on the opposite side of Hoaroak Water. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
