Full Description

A post-medieval leat or water channel is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork in a field to the north west of Whitefield Barton, Challacombe. Centred at approximately SS 6759 4205, the channel runs north to south for 225 metres, following the contours of the south to facing slope. It appears to channel water from the junction of two unnamed streams across the field towards Whitefield Barton, and as such may represent the feed gutter or "headmain" for the catchwater meadow systems there (see MMO2010 and MMO2106).
