Full Description
Strip fields of probable medieval date are visible as linear earthworks on aerial photographs to the south of Thornworthy, Lynton and Lynmouth parish, centred approximately on SS 7114 4568. The linear earthworks are between 3 and 9 metres wide and are probably the ploughed down or otherwise levelled boundary banks between strip fields of medieval date, held in severalty from formerly larger settlement at Thornworthy. The banks are aligned roughly northeast to southwest, are slightly curved in shape and define strips between 10 and 30 metres wide. They may be of a similar date to, and possibly associated with, a square enclosure to the northwest.
