Full Description

A possible military training area is visible as a series of earthworks and tracks on the south east side of Woolhanger Common. Centred at approximately SS 6933 4541 and including five irregularly shaped cut features or craters, linked by a large number of vehicle tracks, and covering an area of approximately 3.5 hectares. Unlike the similar activity recorded under MMO1814, the craters are not arranged in any discernible pattern. They vary in size from 10 to 13 metres across. The exact nature of the activity is not clear from aerial photographs, although given the large number of vehicle tracks it may be related to driver or tank training. The features are less visible on aerial photographs from the 1950s, suggesting that they were abandoned soon after the war.
