Full Description

The Tithe Map for Timberscombe Parish depicts a building sited at SS93874205. There is a linear section on the western side, which abuts a square portion to the east; this has a porch or similar depicted on its eastern elevation. It is within a small land parcel labelled 265, which the Apportionment describes as "Venns Cott &c", part of Well Farm, owned by James Hole esquire and occupied by Thomas Merchant. [1] The 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map shows the northern elevation of the linear western part of the building is open, suggesting a linhay or similar; the southwestern corner of the building partly encroaches on the road to the south. The whole building is little altered in plan. It is labelled "Venn's Cottage". [2] It appears that the linhay section of the building had either been heavily altered or had been removed by the time the 2018 MasterMap data was surveyed and rebuilt, possibly with other alterations to the house. The site is labelled "Venns". [3]
