Full Description

Several old gravel pits and a quarry are depicted and labelled as out of use on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map. The gravel pits are situated at SS 9826 4222, SS 9847 4214 and SS 9851 4210 and the quarry is sited at SS 9855 4205. [1] None of the features are depicted on the 25 inch 2nd Edition map. [2] One of the gravel pits, at SS 9847 4214, is shown on the 2018 MasterMap data, although it is not labelled. It is depicted as a larger site than that shown on the 1st Edition and may have been subject to later working. Some of the boundaries shown on this map also appear to respect the original location of the quarry to the southeast. [3]
